Love as Sculpture
"Everything is sculpture. Any material, any idea without hindrance born into space, I consider sculpture."
— Isamu Noguchi
I was reminded of these words as I wandered the aisles of ICFF this year, surrounded not just by furniture but by resonance of human touch. Booth after booth showcased pieces shaped not only for function, but with intimacy—objects born of hands. They vibrated with presence, and most importantly, with process. There was a tenderness in the way each object was shaped—a tenderness that reminded me of something else. Something less tangible.
Love.
Just like sculptors caresses material, working intuitively with the nuances of their medium, people shape love. We press into each other’s lives, opening spaces that allow for healing, growth, and creation. Together, we co-create new meaning, a new entity.
So maybe love is not only a feeling, or feelings inspiring loving acts.
Maybe love, like everything else born into space with intention and care,
is an object. A living one. And it's as fragile or as strong as the people and processes that made it.
